CMS has released data on readmissions and complications rates for hip and knee replacements, publishing lists of the "best" and "worst" hospitals for the surgeries, according to a report from Kaiser Health News.
The majority of hospitals have average readmission and complications rates for the procedures, though 97 did better than average and 95 performed worse than average on one or both measures.

Of the hospitals with better than average rates, 25 have both low readmission and complication rates. Of hospitals with worse than average rates, nine have high readmissions and high complications.
The joint replacement data comes at the same time as all-cause readmissions rates and expanded hospital-acquired infection data on Clostridium difficile and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Hip and knee replacements will be included in CMS' readmission measures beginning in fiscal year 2015.
