State officials said they conducted a two-day onsite inspection of Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette (Mich.) following union allegations of unsafe patient care, according to ABC 10.
The inspection took place Sept. 19-20 on behalf of CMS. CMS plans to review the state's inspection report. Results will then be provided to UPHS-Marquette officials and the Michigan Nurses Association, and ultimately, made public, the TV station reports.
"Surveyors from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services visited UPHS – Marquette last week to investigate a complaint concerning staffing at our hospital. It is our understanding that the surveyors' final report will be available in a few weeks. While we cannot speak on behalf of the surveyors, we are pleased with the visit and the feedback we received from the survey team while they were onsite and look forward to receiving the official report," the hospital said in a statement to Becker's Hospital Review.
Hospital nurses represented by the MNA called for a patient safety investigation at UPHS-Marquette last month. The nurses have also been in a contract dispute with the hospital and plan to strike in October.
