Cleveland Clinic Children's has launched a Center for Integrative Medicine to offer complementary and integrative medical techniques to children receiving care for various chronic conditions, according to The Plain Dealer.
The new Center for Integrative Medicine offers acupuncture, biofeedback, guided imagery, hypnosis, reiki, relaxation and breathing strategies, therapeutic touch, yoga and other treatments to children with conditions such as anxiety, arthritis, nerve and muscle pain and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The services — which are offered by rehabilitation specialists — are offered in tandem with traditional services prescribed by the patients' physicians to enhance their care.
The Center for Integrative Medicine will also begin research on several integrative treatments — including acupuncture, reiki and a form of low-intensity electrical stimulation called frequency-specific microcurrent therapy — to explore their potential benefits for kids, according to the report.
The children's hospital hosted an open house on Jan. 15, allowing the public to tour the new facility located at Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Cleveland.
