Surgeons at Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Hospital completed 54 heart transplants in 2018, setting a new record for the health system, according to ABC 7.
The health system celebrated Dec. 17 with the transplant recipients and their families.
"I think there are more organs available to us with some adjustments in the listing system and we are just happy we are able to provide care to the patients," Allan Anderson, MD, a cardiologist at Northwestern, told ABC 7.
