CDC Updates Interim MERS Infection Prevention Recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Hospitalized Patients with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

The update includes new information regarding the length of time infection control precautions should be followed, management of sick healthcare personnel, considerations for visitors of patients with MERS-CoV, and hand hygiene. The CDC also offers two MERS-CoV preparedness checklists — for healthcare facilities and one for healthcare providers.

Three cases of the MERS infection have thus far been reported in the U.S.
