CDC Updates Guidance on Respiratory Virus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated guidance on preventing the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, a novel coronavirus that was first reported in September 2012.

The CDC alert includes updated guidance for state health departments and healthcare providers in evaluating patients for MERS-CoV infection. For example, healthcare providers should evaluate patients who develop severe acute lower respiratory illness within 14 days of traveling from the Arabian Peninsula or neighboring countries instead of 10 days, as was originally recommended.

There have been no reported cases of the virus in the U.S.
