CDC recognizes September as Sepsis Awareness Month and is working to raise awareness about the illness, prevent it as well as improve early detection and treatment.
According to the Harris Poll survey, conducted on behalf of Sepsis Alliance, just 44 percent of Americans have heard of sepsis. Sepsis awareness is important because it currently affects more than 1 million people every year and the number of cases has been increasing.
CDC Director Tom Frieden, MD, is serving as the ambassador for World Sepsis Day on Sept. 13, and he will be speaking at the Rory Staunton Foundation Sepsis Forum on Sept. 17.
