CDC names winners of 2017 Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge

The CDC on Tuesday named 24 winners of 2017 Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge.

Million Hearts is a national initiative focused on preventing 1 million heart attacks and strokes between 2017 and 2022. Participants include both individual physicians and healthcare organizations. Winners of this year's challenge shared patient data highlighting verifiable high blood pressure control. All winners achieved control rates of 70 percent or higher for adult patients.

"Too many Americans have high blood pressure, putting them at greater risk for a heart attack, stroke, dementia and other serious health threats," said Brenda Fitzgerald, MD, director of the CDC. "Controlling blood pressure is one of the most effective ways to keep people healthy. We applaud these champions for such great progress."
