CDC investigates outbreak on Disney cruise that sickened 97

The CDC has launched an investigation into an outbreak of a gastrointestinal infection that sickened 92 passengers and five crew members aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship, according to CBS News.

The ship carried approximately 3,700 people, including passengers and crew. It departed from Miami on April 27 and returned from the Bahamas Sunday.

Reportedly, the ship added sanitation measures like cleaning handrails and shutting down self-service stations in the buffet lines to halt the spread of the virus.

"Our primary focus was on taking care of our guests and crew. We have a comprehensive plan that outlines protocols for managing this kind of situation and closely follow CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of common stomach-related illnesses," a spokesperson for Disney told local CBS affiliate WKMG.

The last significant outbreak of illness on a Disney ship occurred in 2002.
