The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced it has awarded approximately $75.8 million to states through the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases Cooperative Agreement, which aims to support states' efforts in tracking and responding to infectious diseases.
The funds, which will go to all 50 state departments, six local health departments and eight territories or U.S. affiliates, will help pay for more than 1,000 jobs. The annual ELC investment helps public health officials "respond to more outbreaks, conduct surveillance faster and prevent more illnesses and deaths from infectious diseases," according to the release.
