California's Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development has released its sixth annual report on coronary artery bypass graft surgery, which shows 30-mortality after the procedure continues to drop, according to a San Francisco Gate report.
The report outlines data from 2009 hospital outcomes. Mortalities after coronary artery bypass graft surgery dropped 34 percent from 2003 to 2009. In 2009 alone, the risk-adjusted 30-day mortality rate was 1.9 percent, down from 2.9 percent in 2003. Officials said the continuing drop may be due to fewer patients undergoing the procedure and improved cardiac care.
