Bombing Event Response Resources Available for Health Professionals

Following the Boston marathon bombings April 15, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Emergency Physicians highlight several resources for healthcare professionals responding to blast events.

The CDC issued a health advisory listing its resources for responding to mass casualty events. The CDC offers a "Mass Casualty Event Preparedness and Response" website, which has information and tools for both the general public and health professionals.

ACEP and a task force developed the Bombings: Injury Patterns and Care curriculum, which was released in 2007, through a project funded by the CDC. The curriculum is designed to guide healthcare organizations creating an all-hazards disaster response training program.

Here are some of the many resources the CDC and ACEP offer for responding to bombing events:

•    Medical record abstraction form for domestic bombing events
•    Mass Trauma Casualty Predictor
•    Blast injury fact sheets for professionals
•    Blast injuries audio podcast
•    Bombings: Injury Patterns and Care class materials, pocket guide and poster
