The American Heart Association awarded Bakersfield (Calif.) Heart Hospital with the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center bronze level recognition for its high standards of care for heart attack patients.
BHH earned the award for its exceptional treatment of patients experiencing a ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, or STEMI — a heart attack caused by a complete blockage of the artery.
Clearing the clot as soon as possible is crucial for patient survival and BHH consistently treated STEMI patients in less than 120 minutes, AMA's recommended time.
"Bakersfield Heart Hospital is committed to improving patient outcomes and providing prompt consistent care to our heart and vascular patients," said Rasham Sandhu, MD, medical director of BHH's chest pain program. "Our heart, vascular and emergency medicine teams all collaborate to get patients the critical care they need quickly, which this award recognizes."
