As the peak summer months take hold, mosquito season is poised to reach its apex. For providers and patients concerned about Zika virus risk in their city, state or region, a new app is using the underlying environmental conditions associated with the Zika virus disease vector to forecast infection risk.

Developed by Ascel Bio, ZikaRisk provides a daily update for local mosquito habitation and weather conditions to identify high risk areas. However, the app doesn't take into consideration risk factors like sexual or human contact. The firm pulls information from its global epidemiological data library to build forecast products like ZikaRisk, according to its website.
The app is currently available for Apple products, and will soon be expanded to include a five-day forecast, according to a statement from Ascel Bio.
