During the week of April 3 through April 9, the percentage of outpatient hospital visits for flu-like illness fell to the national baseline of 2.1 percent for the first time in 12 weeks, according to CDC data.
While cases of flu virus infection from the predominant A strain have fallen off sharply for the past four weeks, cases of the less common B strain have continued to rise. Combined laboratory-confirmed cases for all flu strains during the week were 26.6 for each population of 100,000.
The number of pediatric deaths for the week was 10, bringing the season's total to just more than a third of that of the 2014-2015 flu season.
