Arizona hospital bars patient visitors with flu symptoms

Tucson, Ariz.-based Banner Health placed restrictions on patient visitors to the hospital on Jan. 2, according to NBC affiliate station News4 Tucson.

The restrictions bar visitors who have flu-like symptoms and children under age of 12 who are not accompanied by an adult.

"While we understand visitor restrictions can be difficult, they are necessary to prevent the spread of flu and other respiratory viruses within our hospitals. We appreciate everyone’s help in keeping our patients safe," said Joan Ivaska, senior director of infection prevention at Banner Health.

The Arizona Department of Health Services has seen an increase of flu cases within the last month.
