When The Joint Commission arrives on-site — surprise! — at your hospital for your next triennial survey, will you be ready?
The most updated version of the commission's "Big Book of Checklists" provides health systems with tools that can be used to prepare in advance of the surveyors' arrival. This new third edition of the book covers timely topics including healthcare equity, worker safety, cybersecurity, workplace violence prevention and telehealth.
The book includes tools and templates that can be customized by quality and clinical leaders with regard to preparing for accreditation or re-accreditation, compliance and performance improvement initiatives.
"These tried-and-true checklists help organizations evaluate tasks and processes, provide guidance for decision-making and itemize procedure steps and required 'to-dos,'" according to The Joint Commission.
The book also includes downloadable templates healthcare organizations can use to create their own checklists based on system-specific challenges.
"Checklists are proven tools for getting things done — and more importantly, getting things done the right way every time," The Joint Commission said. "By providing a standardized approach, checklists simplify complex tasks and processes. When used consistently and correctly, a well-developed checklist can help ensure safe patient care."
