The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology has announced it has been selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to lead two new healthcare-associated infection prevention initiatives through 2011.
The first initiative involves APIC examining the accuracy and consistency of data reported by acute care hospitals in Pennsylvania to the CDC's HAI monitoring system (National Healthcare Safety Network). APIC will also conduct audits of hospitals to target central line associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI).
The second initiative focuses on two HAI prevention collaboratives, which will bring a variety of individuals together to focus on supporting and expanding C. difficile prevention in the southeast region of Pennsylvania and to assist acute care clinicians in with surgical site infection prevention in southwest region hospitals.
