The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology honored seven infection preventionists with the Heroes of Infection Prevention Award this year, which recognizes individuals who have who have reduced infections, raised awareness and improved the health and well-being of patients, healthcare workers and the public.
The award recipients are:

Shannon Davila, MSN, RN. New Jersey Hospital Association (Princeton)
John Fall, BSN, RN. Doctors Medical Center (Modesto, Calif.)
Suliman Al Jumaah, MD, and Irene Barron, MSN. King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia)
Sarah Lopez, BSN, RN. HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital (Las Vegas)
Chaz Rhone. Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital
"Our 2016 Heroes have implemented new strategies to prevent infection, demonstrated creative thinking to improve processes, and successfully collaborated with others in their facilities to advance the field," said APIC 2016 President Susan Dolan, RN. "We applaud their commitment to patient safety and celebrate their innovative efforts."
