At least 12 healthcare-based outbreaks of antibiotic-resistant germs have been documented by Florida public health officials since 2008, according to an investigation by The Palm Beach Post.
State officials have handled these outbreaks discreetly thus far, without notifying the public, according to a Boston report. The carbapenem-resistant germs have affected approximately 490 people, and according to CDC estimates, drug-resistant germs kill more than 40 percent of those with serious infections, according to the report.
