American Hospital Association Calls for Careful Cancer Care Quality Testing

The American Hospital Association has commented on potential measures for the prospective payment system-exempt cancer quality reporting program, urging CMS to comprehensively test each proposed quality measure.

The AHA also called for the CMS to obtain approval from the National Quality Forum as well as pre-rulemaking review from the Measure Application Partnership.

The CMS proposed measures are initiation of osteoclast inhibitors for breast cancer patients with multiple myeloma or cancer metastasized to the bone, overuse of imaging for breast cancers with low risk of metastasizing and avoidable emergency department visits and admissions for outpatient chemotherapy patients.
