Alabama Hospitals Beat National HAI Rates for 2012

Alabama hospitals reported lower healthcare-associated infection rates than the national average in 2012, according to the state report Healthcare-Associated Infections In Alabama: Annual Report.

Alabama's rates for catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated blood stream infections and surgical site infections associated with colon surgeries and abdominal hysterectomies were all lower than national averages, according to the report.

All metrics were reported to the Alabama Department of Public Health under the state's Mike Denton Infection Reporting Act, legislation designed to combat HAIs.
