A new law will allow nurses with a multistate license to work in Alabama, even if they are not licensed in the state, according to WSFA 12 News.
Alabama is the 32nd state to join the Nurse Licensure Compact. Previously, nurses had to earn an Alabama license to work in the state. The original law made it difficult to hire travel and temporary nurses, who were often reluctant to get an additional license, according to the Alabama Board of Nursing.
The new law, which will take effect Aug. 1, is expected to help fill understaffed rural hospitals and allow nurses to cross state lines during emergencies.
