AHRQ to develop 8 patient safety learning labs: 3 things to know

The Agency for Healthcare Research Quality will allocate $5 million to create up to eight patient safety laboratories in fiscal year 2018.

Here are three things to know.

1. Multidisciplinary teams will staff the learning laboratories to "identify closely related threats to diagnostic or treatment efforts associated with a high burden of harm and cost," according to the agency's request for grant applications.

2. Individuals may select the diagnostic or treatment focus they wish to study in the learning labs, although they must follow a predetermined research methodology put in place by AHRQ.

3. AHRQ is requesting funding applications for the learning labs through March 26. Each learning lab will receive up to $625,000 in funding for the year.
