After 50 years, Delaware physician reunites with US vet he saved in Vietnam

Mayer Katz, MD, retired surgeon of Lewes, Del.-based Beebe Healthcare, will be featured on the PBS show "We'll Meet Again," and will be reunited with the Vietnam veteran he saved more than 50 years ago, reports Delaware.com.

On Dec. 29, 1967, Roger Wagner was wheeled into a U.S. hospital in Vietnam for a for a leg amputation. When he woke up, he found both of his legs underneath the sheet, and a different surgeon standing by his bed with the last name of Katz. But he had never been able to find the physician to properly thank him.

On 2018, Mr. Wagner reached out to PBS in hopes of finding the surgeon who saved his life. He referred back to his journal and found entries describing Dr. Katz.

It turns out Dr. Katz was interested in meeting up with Mr. Wagner "to see how his leg is doing," according to Delaware.com.

The two met a couple of months later in Rehoboth, Del. The show was scheduled to air Nov. 13.
