Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio, has had its "immediate jeopardy" status lifted after the Ohio Department of Health conducted a survey of the hospital to determine whether it was back in compliance with federal quality and patient safety standards, according to a Chillicothe Gazette report.
The hospital had until April 27 to rectify security-related concerns investigated by Ohio Department of Health officials, otherwise it would have lost its Medicare status and associated funding. State health officials discovered on one occasion a man attempted to steal unsecured medications, syringes, a laptop and other hospital supplies from the hospital. On another occasion, officials found unsecured drugs and syringes in two areas of the hospital.
Steps taken to ensure compliance include new sign-in procedures for all visitors and partnership with a security consulting firm.
