A supposed active shooter situation at Lake Charles (La.) Memorial Hospital ended in a false alarm Oct. 25, offering the facility an opportunity to test its safety policies, according to KPLC News.
Louisiana authorities received a call about an armed man around the gift shop of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Oct. 25, according to a separate report from KPLC News.
The hospital went into lockdown, and implemented safety procedures to protect patients and staff, according to Matthew Felder, communications manager for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Police evacuated several floors, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident around 11: 15 a.m. The man said he was there visiting his daughter who was in surgery. He was release after no gun was found.
"We appreciate people’s cooperation in something like this; when you're in the hospital, when you're visiting," Mr. Felder told KPLC News. "You know, it can be a scary situation, but it's nice when people can listen to the staff and go by their instructions. In this case, it turned out to be an OK situation, thankfully, but those policies and procedures are in place. In today's world, you never know what's going to happen and we appreciate law enforcement's swift response to this situation."
