The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation has released a 40-page report outlining the priorities and challenges of improving medical device reprocessing.
The information in the report was put together from a two-day AAMI and U.S. Food and Drug Administration fall summit on the issue. It includes seven clarion themes or broad goals, such as creating standardized and clear instructions, and 10 immediate steps a facility can take to improve medical device processing.
The 10 immediate steps include creating a multidisciplinary committee to review priority issues and set a plan for solving them throughout the organization; sharing lessons learned; and establishing a formal program for reprocessing, including written standardized policies and procedures that include a chain of accountability.
