2. Approximately 2 percent experienced an infection-related ventilator-associated complication.
3. The rates for ventilator-associated condition events were highest in medical, surgical and thoracic units.
4. The hazard rates for ventilator-associated condition events were lowest in cardiac and neuroscience units.
5. The median number of days to ventilator-associated condition onset was 6.
6. The three most common isolates causing ventilator-associated pneumonia were Staphylococcus aureus (29 percent), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (14 percent) and the Enterobacter genus (7.9 percent).
Researchers suggest more interventions to target ventilator-associated events are needed.
