To help raise awareness of the importance of appropriate antibiotic use in the fight against antibiotic resistance, the CDC shared five ways healthcare leaders can participate in Antibiotic Awareness Week (Nov. 12-18).
1. Use and share educational materials on antibiotic awareness, including graphics from the CDC's national effort to increase patient safety, decrease adverse drug events and fight antibiotic resistance.
2. Make a commitment to the antimicrobial resistance challenge. Join global leaders to fight antibiotic resistance by improving antibiotic use, such as ensuring patients have access to these drugs worldwide.
3. Register for the CDC's free webinar: 5 Ways Pharmacists Can Be Antibiotics Aware in hospital settings Nov. 13 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Experts will discuss pharmacists' roles in improving antibiotic prescribing and use in hospitals.
4. Join leaders in tweeting Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastern Time using the hashtag #AntibioticResistance and use social media to spark conversation throughout the week using #USAAW18 and #BeAntibioticsAware.
5. Visit the CDC's safe healthcare blog for new stories on antibiotic use, including one on the Veterans Health Administration's success in improving antibiotic prescribing for veterans.
