5 top healthcare performers honored at Press Ganey Florida conference

Five top healthcare performers were honored for transforming healthcare delivery by healthcare consulting firm Press Ganey at its 2018 national client conference this month in Orlando, Fla.

The awards included Physician of the Year, Nurse of the Year, Team of the Year, Pediatric Excellence Award and Safety Champion.

"Today we honor the extraordinary achievements of our 2018 award winners. Those we have recognized have exhibited a true commitment to transforming the delivery of healthcare by improving the patient experience, reducing suffering and enhancing caregiver resilience," said Patrick Ryan, Press Ganey CEO. 

The five 2018 award recipients:

1. Emily Sedgwick, MD, received the physician of the year award. She is chief quality officer of faculty group practice and medical director of breast imaging at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Sedgwick was recognized for her compassionate commitment to the patient experience.

2. Melle Reider-Demer, a nurse practitioner at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, received the nurse of the year award. She was honored for her commitment to the betterment of patients and the organization.

3. Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina's blood and marrow transplant program received the team of the year award for its exceptional ability to treat adult and pediatric patients in multiple entities within the university.

4. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia received the pediatric excellence award. The hospital was honored for its commitment to delivering breakthrough experiences for patients, families and staff.

5. Dale Harvey, RN, director of performance improvement, quality and safety at Richmond-based VCU Health, and Joan Wynn, PhD, RN, chief quality officer at Greenville, N.C.-based Vidant Health took home the safety champion award honoring individuals who demonstrate expertise and success in advancing patient and caregiver safety.
