Strokes kill roughly 130,000 Americans annually, making it the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the CDC. Early action can help save the life of someone suffering from a stroke — patients who arrive in the emergency department within three hours of their first symptoms tend to have less disability than those who receive delayed care.
The following is a list of hospitals with the lowest death rate for stroke patients, according to data from CMS.
Information was pulled from Hospital Compare and represents data from July 2012 through June 2015.
All of the hospitals on this list have a stroke death rate of less than 11.7 percent. The national rate of stroke death rate for patients is 14.9 percent.
