In the week ending Oct. 20, 42 states reported sporadic influenza activity; four states reported local flu activity; and four states reported no activity, according to the CDC's most recent FluView report.
Four other things to know:
1. During the last three weeks, public health laboratories have reported influenza A viruses most frequently.
2. Outpatient visits for influenzalike illness remained low at 1.5 percent, below the national baseline of 2.2 percent. All regions reported influenzalike illness below their region-specific baseline level.
3. The number of deaths linked to pneumonia and influenza fell below the system-specific epidemic threshold in the National Center for Health Statistics Mortality Surveillance System.
4. The first flu-associated pediatric death of the 2018-19 season was reported in the week ending Oct. 13.
