Cross-sector collaboration can improve communities' health, according to a report by Wilder Research and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Commission to Build a Healthier America.
The report, "Collaboration to Build Healthier Communities," includes three recommendations for supporting collaboration across industries to improve communities' health. The recommendations are based on information gathered from a survey of 661 professionals in healthcare, public health, early child care, education, human services, housing, transportation and community development finance, as well as in-depth informant interviews with professionals from 27 organizations.
1. National-level leadership is required to build a network and increase the progress of cross-sector collaborations improving health.
2. More opportunities to learn about cross-sector collaboration and gain skills will improve the field of cross-collaboration to improve health.
3. Building evidence for cross-sector projects that improve health can motivate change.
