Three nurses were awarded 2019 March of Dimes Graduate Nursing Scholarships to pursue postgraduate and doctoral studies in maternal-child nursing, according to an article published June 28 on DailyNurse.com.
March of Dimes is a leading nonprofit dedicated to the health of mothers and babies. The awards were announced at the 64th Annual Meeting of the American College of Nurse-Midwives May 18-22.
The three winners:
1. Noelene Jeffers, RN, MSN, is a PhD candidate and current Robert Wood Johnson Future of Nursing Scholar at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore. She plans to become a nurse-midwife scientist and use research to better understand maternal and infant health disparities in U.S. communities of color.
2. Emily Johnson, RN, BSN, is pursuing an MS degree in nursing at the University of New Mexico with a specialization in midwifery. She has served in the Peace Corps and worked with underserved women in Baltimore and Native American communities.
3. Heidi Young-Blackgoat, RN, BSN, is pursuing an MS degree in nursing at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, specializing in midwifery and women's health nurse practitioner. She focuses on addressing high morbidity and mortality rates among women of color.
