25 hospitals honored for clinical performance

Vizient, a healthcare performance improvement company, honored 25 hospitals with its 2018 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award.

The award is given each year to academic medical centers, complex teaching medical centers and community hospital members that show superior performance as measured by Vizient's quality and accountability study, which has been conducted annually since 2005 and focuses on care quality and patient safety.

The 11 academic medical center winners are:

  • Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.)
  • Rush University Medical Center (Chicago)
  • NYU Langone Medical Center (New York City)
  • University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston
  • The University of Kansas Health System (Kansas City)
  • University of Pennsylvania Health System (Philadelphia)
  • University of Utah Health (Salt Lake City)
  • Houston Methodist Hospital
  • Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center (Houston)
  • Tufts Medical Center (Boston)
  • Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center

The nine complex teaching medical center winners are:

  • Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Memorial Hospital (Menomonee Falls, Wis.)
  • The Chester County Hospital and Health System (West Chester, Pa.)
  • Mayo Clinic in Florida (Jacksonville)
  • Beaumont Hospital – Grosse Point (Mich.)
  • Houston Methodist West Hospital
  • Mayo Clinic in Arizona (Phoenix)
  • Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center (Houston)
  • Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire (Wis.)
  • Beaumont Hospital – Trenton (Mich.)

The five community hospital winners are:

  • Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital
  • Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing (Minn.)
  • Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital (Creve Coeur, Mo.)
  • Sanford Worthington (Minn.) Medical Center
  • Saint Luke's South Hospital (Overland Park, Kan.)
