As of March 7, the CDC confirmed 228 measles cases across 12 states this year.
Three things to know:
1. In 2018, the U.S. saw 372 measles cases, compared to 120 cases in 2017. In 2016, the agency reported just 86 cases for the whole year.
2. The following states have reported measles cases in 2019: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
3. Six measles outbreaks have also occurred this year in New York, Washington, Texas, Illinois and California. The outbreaks are linked to international travelers who brought the virus back from countries like Israel where major outbreaks are occurring.
