Healthcare-associated Acinetobacter baumannii infections are on the rise, especially HAIs caused by antibiotic-resistant A. baumannii, according to a study in Antimicrobial Resistance & Infection Control.
Certain factors put patients at risk of developing an A. baumannii infection, a study of data from one health system from 2006 through 2012 found. Those risk factors are longer length of stay prior to infection and antibiotic use prior to infection.
Researchers also found antibiotic resistance was more common in respiratory infections.
