CMS warned DMC Harper University Hospital and DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital that they will be terminated from the Medicare program April 15 unless they correct infection control issues, according to enforcement letters obtained by Becker's.
The infection control deficiencies were revealed during an Oct. 18 survey at the two hospitals conducted by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
The hospitals, part of Detroit Medical Center and owned by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, have an opportunity to submit a plan to correct the issues.
"We have determined that the deficiencies are significant and limit your hospital's capacity to render adequate care and ensure the health and safety of your patients," stated the Jan. 15 letters to the hospitals from CMS.
CMS informed the hospitals they had until Jan. 25 to submit a plan of correction. It is unclear whether the hospitals submitted these plans.
Editor's note: Becker's Hospital Review reached out to Detroit Medical Center for comment and will update the report as more information becomes available.
