The Nassau County Department of Health is working with the New York State Department of Health to investigate an ongoing mumps outbreak in Long Beach. Four cases of the virus have been confirmed and there are another 14 suspected cases.
The investigation is ongoing and the identification of more cases is expected.
Officials reported that all cases occurred in individuals in their 20s, most of whom have been previously vaccinated, and that the outbreak is likely attributable to a strain of the virus that is resistant to vaccination, according to NBC New York.
