Premier healthcare alliance has created a two-year national collaborative called Emergency Department Safety Initiative to increase patient safety, reduce costs and increase patient satisfaction, according to a Premier news release.
EDSI plans to use teamwork and communication to achieve consistent, accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment of high-risk ED patients. The program will first target ED patients with chest and abdominal pain because of their difficult and nonspecific diagnosis and common association with severe outcomes.
Fourteen hospital teams are participating: Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif.; Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu; Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria; Baptist Healthcare System's Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington and Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, all in Kentucky; Baystate Health's Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.; Fairview Health Services' Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.; Presbyterian Healthcare Services' Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M.; Summa Health System's Summa Akron (Ohio) City Hospital; Mountain States Health Alliance's Johnson City (Tenn.) Medical Center; and Texas Health Resources' Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.
The participating hospitals are members of American Excess Insurance Exchange RRG. Premier Consulting Solutions will provide day-to-day oversight of the project. Premier has also partnered with Patient Safety Risk Solutions, which will work with Dynamics Research Corporation and Premier Insurance Management Solutions to provide resources to the hospital teams.
