Physician assistants might be granted interstate practice by spring 2026.
As of Sept. 9, 13 states have joined the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact, which will allow licensed PAs in compact member states to practice outside the state they received licensure.
They are Colorado, Delaware, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin, according to the compact's website. New Jersey, North Carolina and Michigan are considering membership.
This month, the PA Compact Commission will meet to begin operationalizing the compact, which can take up to two years after activation.
