A salmonella outbreak linked to contact with pig ear dog treats had sickened 127 people in 33 states as of July 31, according to the CDC.
Twenty-six people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported. Twenty-one percent of the illnesses are among children younger than 5 years old.
Iowa has seen the highest number of cases linked to this outbreak, with 23 cases as of July 31. New York has the second-highest number of cases with 15, followed by Michigan with 12.
Pig ear dog treats have been identified as the likely source of this outbreak. No single supplier, distributor or common brand of treats has been linked to the outbreak, but the CDC is advising people not to buy or feed any pig ear dog treats to their pets.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps 12 to 72 hours after exposure.
