11 hospitals with Joint Commission certification in sepsis treatment

Currently, there are only 11 hospitals in the country that have earned The Joint Commission's certification for consistently adhering to the organization's sepsis treatment standards, listed below by state.

Sepsis kills between 28 and 50 percent of the people it infects, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Georgia

  • Coliseum Medical Center (Macon)
  • Doctors Hospital of Augusta (Ga.)

Ohio

  • Mercy Health Youngstown (Ohio)

South Carolina

  • Colleton Medical Center (Walterboro)
  • Grand Strand Medical Center (Myrtle Beach)
  • Trident Medical Center (Charleston)

Tennessee
