10 measles cases reported in October, CDC says

The CDC reported 10 new measles infections in October, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,261 cases for 2019.

The agency is now updating the measles case count on a monthly basis in response to a slowdown in infections. April was the most severe month for measles, with 342 new cases reported to the CDC.

As of Nov. 7, 123 measles patients have required hospitalization this year, and 61 reported complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis.

While measles infections have occurred in 31 states, 75 percent are linked to outbreaks in New York, which have since ended.
