The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project has released a report (pdf) including the average length of stay in hospitals for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions from 2001 to 2010, and projected rates for 2012.
The report, "HCUP Projections: Cardiovascular/Cerebrovascular Conditions and Procedures 2011 to 2012" was issued by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The projected costs are based on State Inpatient Databases, which include data from 46 states from 2001 to 2010, and early 2011 data from 10 HCUP states.
Overall, the average length of stay in a hospital for patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions remained around 4.6 days from 2001 and 2010. HCUP predicts the LOS will remain near this rate in 2012.
The LOS for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular procedures was also fairly stable from 2001 and 2010 at 8.0 days. The LOS is projected to remain at this rate in 2012.
