Certified nursing aide turnover rates continue to decline, but wage increases are growing smaller by the year, according to a Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service report.
The 27th annual "Assisted Living Salary & Benefits Report" was conducted by LeadingAge with support from the National Center for Assisted Living. Data was collected from 1,067 assisted living communities that have more than 76,750 employees nationwide. Data represented changes from October 2023 to October 2024.
Here are 4 statistics to know:
1. Average hourly pay for certified nurse aides had the smallest increase in 2024 compared to other positions. Their wages increased by 3.03% in 2024, compared to 5.69% in 2023. Registered nurses' wages increased 3.7% last year, compared to 5.15% in 2023 and resident assistant rates went up 3.95% compared to 4.92% in 2023.
2. The highest-paid CNAs worked in Washington state at $20.85 per hour, Colorado at $23.39 per hour and California at $24.11 per hour. While the lowest paid CNAs worked in Texas at $16 per hour.
3. Turnover rates for CNAs continued to decline in assisted living, with a rate of 40.28% in 2024, compared to 46.27% in 2021.
4. Around 55% of communities said they are still providing sign-on bonuses to attract new talent, with an average bonus of $2,046 for CNAs.
