Publix Pharmacy will deliver prescriptions to patients before they are discharged from Beaufort (S.C.) Memorial Hospital under a new collaboration, the two organizations announced July 22.
Under the collaboration, a nearby Publix Pharmacy will fill medications prescribed during patients' hospital stays and a Publix associate will deliver the prescription to their room before they leave the facility.
The new service will be free for patients who want their medications delivered to the hospital. Patients just need to pay any out-of-pocket costs for the drugs.
The collaboration also includes establishing in-store telehealth locations at two Publix locations in the state. Each telehealth center will have a private room with teleconferencing and medical diagnostic equipment. Virtual visits will be $59 and will not require an appointment
“We're excited about this collaboration to expand access to care in the Lowcountry and to provide a direct prescription service to patients leaving the hospital," said Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley. "Our mission is to improve the health of our community, and offering walk-in care through Publix Pharmacy provides a unique way to do just that. It's another option for patients who need care when and where it is most convenient for them."
