Walgreens and VillageMD have opened 18 Village Medical at Walgreens locations in Phoenix and will open four more by the end of this year.
The companies said Sept. 9 that the 22 locations will create more than 800 jobs in the Phoenix area. At the locations, customers can receive primary care from VillageMD primary care physicians alongside pharmacy services from Walgreens pharmacists.
"The strategic partnership between Walgreens and VillageMD aims to change how healthcare is delivered in this country," Jamie Vortherms, vice president of healthcare services at Walgreens, said in a news release.
Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, lung disease, stroke, diabetes and liver disease are responsible for 70 percent of deaths among Arizonans each year, Walgreens said in the news release. At the Village Medical at Walgreens locations, physicians and pharmacists provide care for chronic diseases, as well as everyday illnesses and injuries.
Walgreens and VillageMD also have announced store openings this year in Texas and Florida.
