Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women's and Children in Metairie, La., is changing its name to Tulane Lakeside Hospital to better reflect the expansion of its adult services, including the addition of an adult intensive care unit.
Other adult services expansions include new orthopedic capabilities, such as a total knee and hip replacement center and a larger presence for the Tulane Sports Medicine Institute on the Tulane Lakeside campus. The hospital also plans to invest in robotic surgery technology.
A spokesperson for New Orleans-based Tulane Health System, Tulane Lakeside's parent, told nola.com that while the hospital will keep its maternity and pediatrics units, and its neonatal intensive care until will continue to function, it will discontinue its inpatient pediatric intensive care services.
Tulane physicians will continue to see patients at outpatient pediatric general and specialty clinics on the Tulane Lakeside campus.
Tara Beth Anderson, Tulane Health System's associate chief nursing officer, said in a statement that Tulane's recent partnership with Children's Hospital of New Orleans resulted in some pediatric inpatient services shifting to Children's, allowing for the expansion of adult services.
